Where fields are organized: university examples
Psychology sits in many kinds of units: a department, an institute, a research group inside a department, or a named degree program. Each example below uses the unit's exact official name and says which kind of unit it is. It is a set of examples, not a ranking and not a complete list. The directory starts with the United States, then Canada, the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe, China, and other regions. Institutions are alphabetical within each group. US and Canadian coverage is emphasized, with expanded examples from New York, Philadelphia and the East Coast.
How these examples were chosen
58 examples from 50 institutions in 19 countries and regions. Each entry cites one official university page that was opened and checked by an independent reviewer on October 21, 2026. A page that could not be opened was not used, so some well-known institutions are absent for that reason alone. The date shown is the day the page was checked; it is not a publication date, and a university can change a page afterward.
- Faculty or school
- An academic faculty or school that may contain departments and programs. It is not a named degree. (1 here)
- Department
- A standing academic department, school or institute with departments. (24 here)
- Institute
- An interdisciplinary institute or center. (1 here)
- Research area or group
- A research area, stream, hub or laboratory inside a larger unit. It grants no degree by itself. (16 here)
- Degree program
- A named degree or program of study. (16 here)
The list leaves out rankings, admission requirements, deadlines and licensing claims. A degree, a department and a professional license are different things; see Practice for how titles and licenses differ by jurisdiction. Regions such as South Asia, Africa outside South Africa and Latin America are thinly covered.

What this does not show: The home page's ranking and research-volume claims are not repeated. The Magíster en Gestión de Personas also appears on the page but is left out pending confirmation of which unit runs it. Doctoral programs in psychotherapy and neuroscience may be shared with other units; this record does not establish that the school alone awards them. The parent faculty is not named on the page read. The cognitive neuroscience tag rests only on the Doctorado en Neurociencias title. No admissions or licensure claim.
